CAT is the largest M.B.A. entrance exam in India and is the pathway for aspirants to gain admission in the top B-Schools in India. The test is conducted by IIMs for selection of students for its various business administration programs. Candidates who appear for CAT can apply for admission in the MBA programs of the 20 IIMs as well as of management programs in 500 other top colleges/universities throughout the country.
Every year more than 2 Lakhs candidates appear for this exam.In 2018,2.41 Lakhs candidates had registered for the exam.CAT 2019 will be held on 24th November and will be conducted by IIM Kozhikode.
The validity of score is for one year only.Candidates based on their CAT score are shortlisted for the 2nd round of admission by the various colleges. The 2nd round of admission might consist of Group Discussion, Writing Ability Test and Personal Interview depending on the institute.

Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible to apply to this programme, a candidate must complete his bachelor’s degree from a recognised university in any academic discipline, with minimum 50% marks for General Category and minimum 45% marks for SC/ST/PWD category. The bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. Candidates who are in the last year of their graduation degree can also apply. Candidates who have completed professional degree (CA/CS/ICWA) with minimum 50% marks for General category and minimum 45% marks for SC/ST/OBC category can also apply for CAT 2019. Candidates who have done graduation in old system of 2 years can also apply for CAT 2019 provided the degree is UGC recognised.
CAT Exam Pattern:
CAT exam is divided in 3 sections: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Ability (QA).Each section has a duration of 60 minutes and the total exam length is 180 minutes. The total exam consists of 100 questions divided in the three sections. The questions are either Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) kind or Type In The Answer (TITA) kind. The MCQ’s carry a negative mark of -1 for every incorrect answer. The TITA kind of questions carry no negative marks.
The VARC section consists of 34 questions of 3 marks each. The DILR section consists of 32 questions of 3 marks each and the QA section consists of 34 questions of 3 marks each.
